Wildmoor Heath Primary School

Pupil Leadership

School Council

To help understand democracy, at the start of each year, children from Year 1 to Year 6 decide if they want to stand for School Council and will give a speech on why they are the best candidate. Within each class, the children vote for two children to represent their class. School Council members meet regularly to discuss ways to improve the school. They raise money for the school and for other charities.

Eco Ambassadors

Two children from each class from Year 1 to Year 6 are chosen to become Eco Ambassadors after giving a short presentation to their class about the environment and their ideas. They work together to promote environmental sustainability in school, raising awareness and engaging their peers by encouraging eco-friendly habits. They get involved with environmental projects, such as developing our outdoor space, managing our compost and recycling systems, tree planting, and helping the school to reduce plastic waste. The Eco team set environmental goals for the school which they track and review on our journey to become an 'Eco school' (Green Flag award).

Kindness Ambassadors

Two children from each class from Year 1 to Year 6 are chosen to be Kindness Ambassadors. Wildmoor Heath has been accredited as a Kindness Ambassador School by the charity 52Lives.  Our Kindness Ambassadors are tasked with the responsibility of encouraging more kindness both in school and the local community. The team meet once every half term to share ideas about spreading kindness.  This has resulted in kindness workshops, assemblies and classroom activities.  The team requested a friendship bench which is now in the playground and have made links with local care homes for the elderly.  The Kindness Ambassadors organised a collection of small gifts from parents to fill Christmas gift bags for the residents of a local care home for the elderly. Once a term, the Year 6 Kindness Ambassadors join a Zoom call with 52Lives and other Kindness Ambassador Schools to share ideas.

Head Girl and Boy

At the start of the year, Year 6 children write an application letter for the important role of Head Boy and Head Girl. Interviews are held with the Headteacher and children are chosen for both Head Boy/Girl and Deputy Head Boy/Girl.  These positions come with great responsibility as they represent the school, inside and outside, as well as giving school tours to visitors.

House Captains

House Captains (and Deputy House Captains) are chosen from the Year 6 class to represent and lead their house in school events and to encourage children from all classes to strive for house points. House Captains share the weekly and yearly house point totals in celebration assemblies. House Captains help to lead Sports Day in the summer.

Other Year 6 Roles

In addition, Year 6 children are chosen to help others around the school, as Librarians, Digital Ambassadors, Lunch Squad and Reception Buddies.
